Did anyone spot this article in the Telegraph over the weekend? It turns out that ‘butter is no longer the bad guy’. Who knew? Lower cholesterol doesn’t necessarily equal lower risk of death. Now there’s a thing. Cutting out all fat from our diets isn’t necessarily a good thing. Whoa there! Trans fats and hydrogenated fats are actually the bad guys. Well blow me down!
So this article still doesn’t quite make peace with saturated fats as:
“Overwhelming evidence from the past five decades confirms that reducing intake of animal fats such as from bacon and butter and replacing them with oils and fats from plants, like those found in our spreads, contributes significantly to heart health.”
Ok, sounds convincing. Let’s have a little look who is producing this statement. Oh, look, it’s a spokeswoman for Unilever.
